Affective Neurofeedback Under Naturalistic Conditions: A Mini-Review of Current Achievements and Open Challenges

Affective neurofeedback training allows for the self-regulation of putative circuits emotion regulation. This approach has recently been studied as a possible additional treatment psychiatric disorders, presenting positive effects in symptoms and behaviors. After training, critical aspect is transference learned strategies to outside laboratory how continue reinforcing these non-controlled environments. In this mini-review, we discuss current achievements affective under naturalistic setups. For this, first provide brief overview state-of-the-art protocols. We then virtual reality transitional step toward final goal “in-the-wild” protocols advances using mobile neurotechnology. Finally, discussion open challenges in-the-wild, including topics such convenience reliability, environmental attention workload, among others.
